Programs are ALWAYS pending final confirmation by the host program/host university and the ability for students to travel to and enter their host country.  The application for spring semester 2025 will open in late August 2024 an application deadline of October 1, 2024. Health, safety and security notices for each country and program will be monitored and program statuses will be communicated to applicants during the application process.  Slippery Rock University has 20+ international partners in over 17 different countries! You can study at any of our partner institutions for one semester or a full academic year if the program is available and operating. Partners are categorized into Exchange Programs or Direct Enrollments. Students studying through an Exchange Program pay SRU tuition and fees and in some instances room and/ or board, receiving comparable services at the host institution. Students studying abroad through a Direct Enrollment program are charged tuition fees, room and board which are costs determined by the host institution.

Semester and Year Long Programs

SRU's Summer 2025 program application will open in late January 2025 with a deadline of March 1, 2025. Typically, SRU summer study abroad programs range on average from 4-8 weeks. Spend a month at one of our language institutes to work on your foreign language skills or spend your summer in Ireland or England taking a variety of culture classes! Summer programs are a great way to fulfill your liberal studies requirements here at SRU!  Dates and Costs are subject to change.

Summer Programs

We will begin recruiting for May 2025 short term programs in mid-September 2024. These short-term programs provide a quick, fun, and affordable way to combine learning with international travel by examining an academic theme or topic from the perspective of the host community and culture. Programs are led by SRU Faculty or Staff. Programs, leaders and locations vary annually. 

Faculty/Staff Led Programs

If you can't find an SRU sponsored program to fit your needs/interest, consider one through our affiliated programs. We have partnered with these organizations to provide additional opportunities at fully-accredited educational organizations. Costs are typically more expensive and the application process tends to be lengthier than for SRU sponsored programs because you must do their forms as well as ours. However, these programs can get you to locations that are not available through our sponsored exchange programs, and all offer great student support while overseas. Affiliated Programs

Slippery Rock University-College of Education majors have the unique opportunity to complete one month of their student teaching experience in global locations that vary each year. These short-term programs are led by experienced faculty members who are with the students for the duration of the trip. The program is open to all certification areas Pre-k-4 to secondary education, as well as art, music, and physical education majors.

During these experiences, students will live in the community where they co-teach with academic partners in the local schools and they will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture through weekend excursions that take them throughout the host country. From castles to basilicas to local foods and local history, students who participate in global student teaching walk away from the program realizing its life changing impact. They also realize that it makes them standout in the job-seeking market place, when interviewing with school administrators.

Applications for spring 2025 student teaching abroad will be opened in mid-fall semester 2024.
