Program Overview

Programs are pending final confirmation by the host program/host university and the ability for students to travel to and enter their host country.  Travel restrictions will be monitored and the program status will be communicated to applicants during the application process.

Kansai Gaidai University is located in Hirakata, Japan, and is one of SRU's oldest exchange partners. SRU students take part in the Asian Studies Program at Kansai Gaidai University.

Students from SRU participating in this program are considered full exchange students which means that you will pay your SRU tuition, fees, room and board charges to SRU and as such, those fees will be waived in Japan. There will still be some fees due upon arrival in Japan such as your refundable program deposit, international student fee, liability and medical assistance fee, refundable housing deposit and airport pick up fee. Art students may also have studio art course fees.  SRU full exchange students have three housing options to choose from. Homestays are no longer available.

Students will have the opportunity to study alongside their peers from all over the world as well as immerse themselves into the culture of Japan. There are many co-curricular cultural activities to join and experience as a student in this program.

Program Requirements

  • Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 to study abroad, however, some SRU international partner institutions may require a higher GPA
  • There is no class level requirement for study abroad at SRU
  • Disciplinary files will be requested from the Office of Student Conduct, for each applicant, and will be taken into consideration during the review process.
